The salaries of MLAs vary across the states. Increase in the grant given by central government has led to increase in the salary of MLAs and CM. It was observed in last month that many state legislative assemblies have passed the bill to give salary hike to their MLAs. This blog focuses more on the salary hike of MLAs of these states.  Government of Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab has increased the salary of their MLA. Lets know about them one by one

Salary hike in Karnataka

Karnataka government has passed the bill for salary hike of their MLAs on 30th March. Their basic salary has gone up from Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000 per month. With this basic salary hike, their other allowance  has also been increased. Allowance of Chief Minister and other minister have also been increased from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh per month. The salary of chairman of legislative council and speaker will be Rs 50,000 per month, where sumptuary allowance will be Rs 3 lakh each.

Salary hike in Uttar Pradesh

Government of Akhilesh Yadav has passed the bill on 26 March, which has increased the salary of their MLAs as well the pensions of Ex MLAs. The salary of legislators have been given hike, which has apparently increased their salary from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 per month. Along with the increase in the basic salary, constituency allowance has also been increased from Rs 22,000 to Rs 30,000. Medical allowance  has also been increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 18,000 and secretary allowance from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000. Increase in other allowance has also made them enjoy the salary similar to IIM graduate.

Salary hike in Punjab

Bill for hike in the salary has also been passed by punjab government for their MLAs. Salary of MLAs and chief parliamentary secretariat have been increased from Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000. Where, MLAs and Ex MLA’s salary have also got hike from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. MLAs are complaining that their salary is still lesser than the salary of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh’s MLA salary.
