States may conduct eligibility tests to recruit teachers at various levels in state sponsored schools.

For colleges and universities a minimum of post graduation is required for the teaching position though preference will be given to candidates with higher qualification like M.Phil or Doctorate. The candidate also needs to qualify the national and state level screening examinations namely National Eligibility Test (NET) and State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) to become a lecturer. The University Grants Commission (UGC) is responsible for setting the eligibility criteria and conducting tests for recruitment in colleges and universities in India.

Eligibility criteria to become a nurse

To join the nursing career the candidate must possess at least Secondary Level School Leaving Certificate or equivalent education with physics, chemistry and biology as subjects. Courses available in nursing are:
